April 3, 2005: (3.0 hrs.)  Since the weather was nice today, I decided to try and take advantage of the weather by doing some work outside.  I took a break from working on the right tank and switched to prepping all the left wing ribs for paint.  I had been putting this off, partly because I am not ready to assemble the left wing and partly because this is a huge job.

I was able to get all the left wing ribs scrubbed with Alumiprep.. There are a lot of ribs!  Here you see them all hanging to dry from my wing stand.  I did not have time to Alodine and prime them.  I will try to get that done tomorrow.

April 4, 2005: (1.5 hrs.)  Made time this afternoon while the sun was still shining to Alodine and Prime the left wing ribs outside.  Working with these chemicals outside is much more enjoyable then in my garage.  I don't have to deal with venting all the fumes, and the primer dries very fast in the sun.
April 9, 2005: (2.5 hrs.)  Enlarged the attach holes to a #19 in the leading edge joint plate, dimpled the holes, and then proceeded to fit the nut-plates.  I tapped out a nut-plate so that a screw could thread in and out easily.  I then tightened the nut-plate into position on each hole, match drilling the rivet holes as I went.
After dimpling the rivet holes in the nut-plates and the skin, I then clecoed the nut-plates into place.  The rivets in each nut-plate were then set with my hand squeezer.
My father-in-law is out visiting so I put him to work...  He used the soldering iron to remove the blue plastic from the rivet lines on the top skins.
The protective plastic was also removed from the rivet lines on the bottom skins.  Once the plastic was removed, the holes where deburred on each side.
April 10, 2005: (1.0 hrs.) Spent time today doing deburring and dimpling.  Here the ribs are being debured while in the wing jig
Dimpled the leading edge skin and its ribs.  My father-in-law was around to help out holding the skin while I positioned it in the c-frame dimpler.  Two people make dimpling the skins much easier.  I am going to try and get all the skins dimpled before he leaves town :)
