April 8, 2005:(1.0 hrs.) The inboard tank z-bracket does not get nut-plates
attached to it, but instead attaches to nut-plates that secured to the
main spar. The plans do not talk about attaching these nut-plates
until after the wing skeleton riveted together. This unfortunately
makes it difficult to set the rivets with the tight space between the
ribs. On the left wing I will definitely attach the nut-plates
before I rivet the skeleton together.
The interior bottom of the tanks get
stiffeners attached between the ribs. The stiffeners are much like
those used in the rudder. The angle stock comes marked for cutting
with notches and holes.
I used my Wiss cutter to make quick work
of the stiffeners. I cut both the stiffeners for both the left and
right tanks.
April 9, 2005:(3.0 hrs.) Started the day by cleaning up the edges of the tank
stiffeners with my bench grinder and Scotchbrite wheel.
Next I used my micro-stop cutter to
counter sink the tank skin to rear baffle attach holes. I then
disassembled the tank.
Match drilled the tank stiffeners to the
inside of the tank
Deburred all the holes in the tank ribs,
stiffeners, and skin.
The deburred parts ready for dimpling.
April 10, 2005:(0.5 hrs.) Did a little bit of tank preparation today. I
drilled out the hole on the inboard rib for where the access plate gets
attached. I used my fly-cutter (shown) in the bench press to
remove the material. I then used a 2" scotchbrite wheel to debur
the edges of the hole.
