October 5 - 26, 2008:
(8.0 hrs.)
I decided I wanted my navigation and strobe lights to really shine,
so I purchased some 1/8" plexi mirror and cut it to fit the wingtip
light cutouts. Needless to say, I ended up having to re-make a
couple of these mirror plates.
I then drilled the holes for the navigation, strobe, and landing
light assemblies.
Here I am test fitting one of the navigation lights |
|
Strobe light installed. |
|
All lights installed... It kinda looks
like the landing lights are on, but that is just the reflection from my
flash. I also spent some time testing all the lights. Everything
worked fine. |
|
Here is a shot of the inside of the wing
tip. I installed some Molex connectors on the navigation and
strobe lights. |
|
The drivers for the HID lights got
installed to the outboard rib on my wing tips |
|
Spent a fair bit of time working on the
wing-tip light lenses. Word of caution, do not use Acetone to
clean the lenses! I had some duct tape residue on one lens and
tried using Acetone to clean it off only to see the lens actually melt.
So, like so often these days, I got to make another part.
Here are the finished lights. |

November, 2008:
(1.0 hrs.)
I built a marker beacon antenna out of a 40" long piece of coax that
I stripped the outer casing and shielding off and installed a female BNC
connector.
Here the antenna is being bonded into place inside my wing tip.
